India Network Foundation is pleased to announce visitor health insurance programs and plan options for senior visitors coming to the USA in 2018. India Network Foundation is a non-profit organization with more than 30 years of experience in helping foreign visitors to the United States through sponsorship of various visitor health insurance plans. The visitor medical insurance plans offer affordable health insurance for all age groups of visitors (0 - 99 years old) irrespective of their health conditions. Coverage is available for pre-existing conditions through American insurance companies and all claim processing is carried out in the United States. Every year, thousands of families benefit from India Network Visitor Health Insurance plans that facilitate visits from parents and grandparents from around the world to the USA.

It is very difficult to find a suitable visitor health insurance plan for visitors over 65 years old. Life Expectancy in India is about 68 years making many insurance companies nervous in offering any health insurance cover for visitors traveling from India. India Network Foundation is pleased to step in and provide coverage for all ages up to 99 years. The senior coverage offered include accident and sickness coverage in addition to covering pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, blood pressure, etc. Two kinds of plans are available - fixed benefit plan and a comprehensive plan. More information on the plans and premiums can be found at https://www.kvrao.org

"India Network Visitor Health Insurance advises every parent coming to USA for family reunion, spend time with grandchildren, tourism, or vacation to take advantage of cost effective and reliable health insurance that covers pre-existing conditions such as CHUBB Network, CHUBB Premier and AXIS plans. Recent analysis of claims data shows that majority of high volume and high dollar value claims are originating from pre-existing conditions. An insurance policy without pre-existing coverage is limited to accidents and new problems and is often no use to elderly parents.

Dr. KV Rao, Founder and President said that "pre-existing coverage definition vary across plans, some limiting pre-existing coverage to acute onset, which is not really useful to visitors from India. India Network plans are the only ones in the US that cover pre-existing and new problems in the same way and assure peace of mind".

Tips for International Students – How to Choose the Right Visitor Insurance Plan

Why is it so important to have visitor health insurance for students?

Being a student at the U.S. college or university is very exciting but challenging process. It includes so many different things to consider. One of them is to get the right visitor insurance.

Some students may argue that they are young and healthy and cannot get sick, but the reality is, anything can happen. While having fun, they could get into accidents or catch cold by simply sitting next to a sick person. Flu, cold and food poisoning are universal problems that most students are facing, and they are all could lead to other health complications.

If you want to be good student, you should get visitor health insurance right away. With the right visitor insurance you can concentrate on studying instead of being worried about paying huge medical bills.

What you need to know before buying visitor health insurance:

Premium - is the amount of money that you must pay for an insurance policy (usually you pay it monthly).

Deductible - is the amount you pay for health care services before your health insurance begins to pay for your medical expenses.

Copay - is a payment defined in an insurance policy and you have to pay for it every time you get a medical service.

Coinsurance - the percentage of costs of a covered health care service you pay after you've paid your deductible.

Be careful when you buy visitor health insurance and if it's possible, plan your medical expenses in advance in order to stay in a good financial shape.

India Network Services is pleased to offer the following visitor insurance plans for students:

If you are age 17 and under with pre-existing conditions, the most popular choice is the $150,000 CHUBB Network Plan with the $1,500 Pre-Existing Deductible. Pre-existing medical coverage is $25,000. Members with good health can opt for CHUBB Network Plan for new problems and accidents in the next section or enroll in AXIS plan. Also AXIS Plan is a good choice - it is a fixed benefit plan with Pre-existing Conditions Coverage limited to Acute Onset of Pre-existing existing conditions. See Program page for more details.

If you are age 17 and under and do not have pre-existing conditions, the most popular choice is the CHUBB Network comprehensive Plan. This plan covers 80 percent of covered expenses up to policy maximum after $250 deductible. AXIS BasicCare plan is preferable among fixed benefit plans as it comes with few additional coverage that are not available in other plans.

What is the Difference between AXIS plan with Pre-Existing Coverage, CHUBB Network and CHUBB Premier Plans?

In the context of healthcare in the United States, a pre-existing condition such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, etc., is a medical condition that started before a person's health benefits went into effect. You might look and feel healthy, but you might have a condition that you don’t know about. It's very painful to find out about a sickness when it's too late. Most insurance companies do not cover pre-existing conditions.

AXIS plan vs. CHUBB plans with pre-existing condition coverage

The main difference between AXIS plan with pre-existing coverage, CHUBB Network and CHUBB Premier plans are pre-existing condition limitation to Acute Onset.
CHUBB Network and CHUBB Premier DO NOT have any Acute Onset limitation. You can go to a doctor anytime you want.

CHUBB Network plan covers for 80 percent of medical expense, and the insured is responsible for the remaining 20 percent up to the policy maximum. This is a great plan for older people (50+ years), and people with pre-existing conditions. CHUBB Network plan uses a very broad definition of pre-existing conditions - pre-existing conditions are covered in the same way like new problems and accidents except they are subject to different deductible and different policy max.

CHUBB Premier is another option for people who are looking for pre-existing coverage and willing to take some risk. This is a fixed benefit plan and is more affordable to fit different budgets. This plan uses a very broad definition like network plan and pays for both pre-existing conditions and new problems using schedule of benefits (Fixed benefits).

AXIS plan with pre-existing coverage DOES have Acute Onset requirement. If you experience an acute onset of a pre-existing condition, benefits are payable according to your policy benefits. Treatment for said condition must be obtained within 12 hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or reoccurrence. This is a fixed benefit with very limited coverage of up to $1000 for pre-existing conditions based on a very restrictive definition of acute onset, a common definition used by industry in travel insurance market. Not recommended for any one with serious pre-ex conditions.

What is Acute Onset?

Most insurance companies don't offer pre-existing coverage, but do offer acute onset coverage. There are a lot of exceptions that may apply when it comes to acute onset. For most insurance companies, insured must seek medical attention within 12 or 24 hour window after initial symptoms manifestation in order to be considered acute onset.

What you need to know about acute onset

You should seek medical attention as soon as you experience any symptoms. When it comes to extreme conditions like a heart attack or stroke, people need to get immediate care since these conditions can be very severe, and could cost a lot of money.
People should stay away from insurance plans that have pre-existing condition coverage with acute onset definition. This definition pretty much nullifies the coverage you were expecting for pre-existing conditions as it is impossible to run to the hospital immediately after some discomfort. Due to this reason, any plans that offer millions of dollars of pre-existing conditions coverage using the "ACUTE ONSET" definition at a very low price. As you see very well, most claims do not qualify under the definition of "acute onset" and you will soon realize that plan has no practical coverage for pre-existing conditions.

Any pre-existing coverage that uses "acute onset" definition is likely to deny your claims.

Hypothermia: Learn why Cold Weather can be Dangerous for You

This winter in USA has been extremely cold. Plummeting temperatures broke records in several states. That's why it's important to know why cold weather can be dangerous for you. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is going to help you to learn more about cold. You can go to their website to read more. Remember to get a  Visitor Health Insurance before you visit the U.S. Medical bills  can cost you thousands of dollars. Go to this website to learn why it's important to have a Visitor Health Insurance. Here you can learn more about Visitors Health Insurance Plans offered by India Network Services.

Hypothermia, or abnormally low body temperature, is a dangerous condition that can occur when a person is exposed to extremely cold temperatures. Stay safe this winter by learning more about hypothermia, including who is most at risk, signs and symptoms, and what to do if someone develops hypothermia.

What is Hypothermia?

  • Hypothermia is caused by prolonged exposures to very cold temperatures. When exposed to cold temperatures, your body begins to lose heat faster than it’s produced. Lengthy exposures will eventually use up your body’s stored energy, which leads to lower body temperature.
  • Body temperature that is too low affects the brain, making the victim unable to think clearly or move well. This makes hypothermia especially dangerous, because a person may not know that it’s happening and won’t be able to do anything about it.
  • While hypothermia is most likely at very cold temperatures, it can occur even at cool temperatures (above 40°F) if a person becomes chilled from rain, sweat, or submersion in cold water.

Who’s Most at Risk?

Victims of hypothermia are often:

  • Older adults with inadequate food, clothing, or heating
  • Babies sleeping in cold bedrooms
  • People who remain outdoors for long periods—the homeless, hikers, hunters, etc.
  • People who drink alcohol or use illicit drugs.

Recognizing Hypothermia

Warnings signs of hypothermia:

Adults:

  • shivering, exhaustion
  • confusion, fumbling hands
  • memory loss, slurred speech drowsiness

Infants:

  • bright red, cold skin
  • very low energy

Don’t Wait- Take Action

If you notice any of these signs, take the person’s temperature. If it is below 95° F, the situation is an emergency—get medical attention immediately.

If medical care is not available, begin warming the person, as follows:

  • Get the victim into a warm room or shelter.
  • If the victim has on any wet clothing, remove it.
  • Warm the center of the body first—chest, neck, head, and groin—using an electric blanket, if available. You can also use skin-to-skin contact under loose, dry layers of blankets, clothing, towels, or sheets.
  • Warm beverages can help increase body temperature, but do not give alcoholic beverages. Do not try to give beverages to an unconscious person.
  • After body temperature has increased, keep the person dry and wrapped in a warm blanket, including the head and neck.
  • Get medical attention as soon as possible.

A person with severe hypothermia may be unconscious and may not seem to have a pulse or to be breathing. In this case, handle the victim gently, and get emergency assistance immediately.

  • Even if the victim appears dead, CPR should be provided. CPR should continue while the victim is being warmed, until the victim responds or medical aid becomes available. In some cases, hypothermia victims who appear to be dead can be successfully resuscitated.

Be Prepared

Taking a first aid and emergency resuscitation (CPR) course is a good way to prepare for cold-weather health problems. Knowing what to do is an important part of protecting your health and the health of others.

Taking preventive action is your best defense against having to deal with extreme cold-weather conditions. By preparing your home and car in advance for winter emergencies, and by observing safety precautions during times of extremely cold weather, you can reduce the risk of weather-related health problems.
